Anderson Silva Replaces Jon Jones At UFC 200
Anderson Silva, one of the greatest fighters in MMA history will replace Jon Jones with a fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 on less than two days notice.
Cormier will face Silva in a non-title fight in the light heavyweight division Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Jon Jones was pulled from the card Wednesday after failing a USADA out-of-competition drug test.
Daniel Cormier (17-1) had asked UFC president Dana White if he could just sign a waiver and fight Jones anyway as it would have meant losing millions of dollars if he didn’t get to fight.
Anderson Silva (33-7, 1 NC) will save the day even though only seven weeks ago he had surgery to remove his gall bladder. Silva, 41, is also coming off a unanimous decision loss to Michael Bisping in February.
Anderson “The Spider” Silva has not had a win since 2012.
The UFC announced later Thursday night that Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes for the women’s bantamweight title will now be the new UFC 200 main event.
Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt will go back to being the co-headline fight.
