WWE Battleground Quick Thoughts

WWE Battleground took place on Sunday the 24th July 2016 in Washington DC.

Please check out Talha’s full in-depth PPV report here:

Here are my quick thoughts on the event….

Tyler Breeze and Fandango Vs The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) in the pre show match.

This was a short little match – I like the Usos and thought they looked good here but Tyler and Fandango got the win.

Cesaro was on the pre show panel and he seemed a little distracted while he was talking,  it seemed very strange, I’m not sure what was going on, if the producer was shouting in his ear piece at the same time he was trying to speak, but something seemed off and he was stalling his words a lot. I don’t know him to be like that usually at all.

Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Charlotte & Dana Brooke
Bailey was the surprise tag partner for her friend Sasha.

This was a fair tag match with Sasha forcing Charlotte to tap out at the end. The crowd were really happy to see Bailey.

New Day vs. Wyatt Family

The story of the match here is that Xavier Woods overcomes his fear of the Wyatts but eventually ends up being the one pinned by Bray Wyatt to end the match.

I think Bray looks in really good shape since his return and that the time away has been good for him.

Rusev vs. Zack Ryder for WWE United States Championship

I didn’t watch this match but I did kinda see what was happening as it was Fast Forwarding. It didn’t look like a good match. Rusev seemed to have a Bearhug applied for a long time and he won with his Camel Clutch lock. Mojo Rawley appeared to break the hold after the match had ended…. Mojo and Rusev are going to have some really bad matches over the US Title it seems….

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens

I thought this would be the best match of the night and it definitely was. I was worried early on as Sami went for a sit-down springboard off the ropes but it went a little wrong and he landed awkwardly on his arm on the apron. Thankfully he was able to continue the match but did look like he was in pain. Sami won this feud-ending match after a couple of Helluva Kicks in the corner. I really enjoyed this match.

Natalya vs. Becky Lynch

This was a fair match – I’m sure it will lead to better matches between the two in the future.
The story of the match was that Nattie was working over Becky’s leg, working toward her Sharpshooter which she eventually applies and gets the tap out win.

Darren Young vs. The Miz

I would never watch a Miz / Darren Young match. I skipped this completely, no idea what happened and I never want to know!

Styles & The Club Vs Cena & Enzo Amore & Big Cass

I don’t watch Cena matches! Immediately skipped and I don’t care what happened! Next!

Chris Jericho interviews Randy Orton

I would never watch / listen to a Randy “Boring” Orton promo, immediately skipped…..

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns for WWE Championship

This was a good Triple Threat main event – I didn’t expect Dean Ambrose to survive as Champion but that’s exactly what happened and it made for a really good feel-good end to the event as most of the Smack Down roster came to the ring and hoisted Dean up on their shoulders as he would be bringing that Championship over to Smack Down.

Overall I saw some things I liked, especially the Sami Zayn Vs Kevin Owens match. In a way it’s a shame that they wont be working with each other more because their matches and segments are always a highlight of WWE television for me.
