WWE Raw Vs WWE Smack Down Weeks 3 & 4

The New Era Week One: WWE Raw Vs WWE Smack Down

WWE Raw 8th & 15th August Vs Smack Down 9th & 16th August

As there was no Raw Vs Smack Down week 3 last week I’m combining two of each show here.

We are approaching WWE SummerSlam this Sunday so let’s take a look at the two weeks of Raw and Smack Down leading to the event.

WWE Raw on the 8th of August took place in Anaheim, California.

Mick Foley invited Daniel Bryan to appear on Raw.

ANYTHING is possible with @WWEDanielBryan heading to #Raw TONIGHT! https://t.co/2fNflRlFRO pic.twitter.com/sHs9uhgUA2

WWE announced that P-Diddy the pop hip hop performer would be on Raw and that he would be the executive producer for the WWE2K17 game which was bad news for me because I hate any kind of urban hip hop – I just hope the game allows you to mute the menu music and save the setting for each time the game starts.

Rusev and Lana will celebrate their marriage live on Raw with an in-ring segment…..

The Dudleys challenge Neville to a match if he can find himself a partner.

Looks like @WWENeville needs a partner to take on @BubbaRayDudley and @TestifyDVon TONIGHT on #RAW! #RAWPreShow https://t.co/1y22Mwf8IX

Enzo and Big Cass enter the ring and start with their little sing-along comedy routine which is interrupted by Jericho and Kevin Owens. They call Enzo dead weight and Jericho will take on Enzo in the opening match….

It looks like @WWEAaLLday21 and @IAmJericho are going to go at IT on #RAW, and it’s NEXT! pic.twitter.com/qk14qBsa6V

Chris Jericho Vs Enzo

After Jericho hits the Codebreaker on Enzo, Big Cass gets into the ring and lands a big boot to Jericho, causing a disqualification.

Enzo and Cass challenge Jericho & Owens to a tag match at SummerSlam and they accept….

I feel this is a shame as Jericho and Owens could each have great, meaningful singles matches at SummerSlam being such good heels and performers but this tag match is going to be nothing but a couple of veterans trying to get something passable out of a couple of rookies in a throwaway opening match. I don’t believe this is the best use of Jericho and Owens for a big event like SummerSlam.

The disqualification gets @IAmJericho the VICTORY after a boot to the face from an irate @BigCassWWE! #RAW pic.twitter.com/IsPdbnfQ0c

Braun Strowman Enhancement Match

Braun Strowman beat another jobber quickly here. He didn’t look especially impressive, he’s just big. What I mean by that is he doesn’t display a lot of speed or stamina or high impact / impressive moves, he’s just a big guy that tries to look mean but he’s limited in the squared circle and can’t really do much His finisher is a reverse Chokeslam.

The MOUNTAIN of a man @BraunStrowman is on his way to the ring to inflict pain on #RAW… pic.twitter.com/S1l6kJxhQf

Titus O’Neil Vs Darren Young – I hit fast forward as quickly as I could and hit play when I saw they weren’t on the screen anymore….

Seth Rollins cuts a promos on Finn Balor, basically saying that he’s not as good as he is.

Cesaro Vs Sheamus

Cesaro beats Sheamus for the second week in a row with a quick roll up. I like Cesaro and I’ve seen him bring out the best in Sheamus in previous matches but I just get very bored watching Sheamus. I would have preferred Cesaro to feud with Sami Zayn or Kevin Owens or Chris Jericho for example.

NEXT WEEK, #TheBeast @BrockLesnar and @HeymanHustle return to #RAW for the final stop before #SummerSlam! pic.twitter.com/0bPFHxGz6k

The Dudleys Vs Neville & Sin Cara

The Dudleys get in the ring to face Neville and his tag team partner….. Sin Cara!?? I like Sin Cara but wow that was a disappointment. I was thinking that maybe they got Tommy Dreamer or Stevie Richards to make an appearance but Sin Cara? They also beat the Dudleys for some reason. Are they going to be a permanent team now? I hope not and if not, why did they beat The Dudleys here in such a short, meaningless match? Are they putting over Neville and Cara or are they punishing the Dudleys? Are they punishing fans? Maybe all three at the same time.

Rusev & Lana Segment

Rusev and Lana get in the ring to celebrate getting married, there’s a large cake in the ring and champaign. Rusev blabbers for a bit about getting married, Lana speaks with that bad impression of a Russian accent and then Roman comes to the ring, he cracks some jokes, he drinks their champaign and then pushes Rusev who bumps into Lana who throws herself into the cake so all the fans can laugh. She stomps her feet and screams like a banshee while the fans laugh harder.
I hate these hokey WWE comedy segments!!

Mick Foley makes a match between Sasha Banks and Dana Brooke – if Sasha wins, Dana is barred from Ringside for Sasha Vs Charlotte at SummerSlam – if Dana wins, it will be a 2-On-1 match.

Sasha Vs Dana

Sasha won the match but the finish didn’t look great. Charlotte was supposed to accidentally hit Dana costing her the match but Sasha moved out of the way too soon or Charlotte was a little slow with her slap so it didn’t look too unintentional, it just looked like Charlotte slapped Dana and it cost her the match.

Mick Foley makes the Rusev Vs Roman match for SummerSlam…. I thought that match was booked a couple of weeks previously but I guess not.

Former #WomensChampion @MsCharlotteWWE likes what she’s seeing from @DanaBrookeWWE on #RAW… pic.twitter.com/G60mmnMHyp

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Vs The Club.

Gallows pins Kofi after a few seconds it seems…. I don’t really know what the reason behind this was, it wasn’t good for either team. They crotch Big E on the ring post and WWE later put it over as a serious groin injury for Big E.

Goldust & R-Truth are involved in some comedy angle with a guy dressed as the cartoon character dog, Scooby Doo.

Mick Foley calls Daniel Bryan out to the ring. The two General Managers apologise for Orton and Lesnar invading the brand they aren’t signed with. Cesaro and Rusev come to the ring and Foley makes a match between Cesaro and Rusev for the US Title.

Cesaro Vs Rusev

Sheamus appears during the match and hits a Brogue Kick on Cesaro – Rusev then nails Cesaro with a kick to the neck and pins him for the victory. Roman Reigns appears and hits a Spear on Rusev after the match.

8th August Raw ends here – Not a good show with some strange booking decisions and not a good match in sight. Most of the matches had outside interference or ended quickly and suddenly. It was just a a throwaway Raw which featured nothing memorable at all.

WWE Raw 15th August 2016

Mick Foley / Stephanie / Rusev / Lana / Roman Reigns Opening Segment

Mick Foley comes to the ring for a segment with Rusev and Lana who are unhappy that Foley gave Reigns a US Title match with Rusev at SummerSlam. Rusev demands respect. Stephanie comes to the ring and tells Rusev to respect Mick Foley. Roman comes to the ring and say they want to fight each other tonight. Mick Foley makes a non-title match between them tonight on Raw….

It’s about the #USTitle at #SummerSlam, but it’s for @LanaWWE’s honor w/ @WWERomanReigns vs. @RusevBUL TONIGHT! #RAW pic.twitter.com/XrXoM6PE8V

— WWE (@WWE) August 16, 2016

Sami Zayn Vs Sheamus

Apparently, @WWESheamus is ready to continue proving his dominance against @iLikeSamiZayn… #RAW pic.twitter.com/YKxI6DkOfJ

Cesaro appears during the match, causing a distraction for Sheamus. Sami hits the Helluva Kick and covers Sheamus for the 3 count.

Backstage, Cesaro and Sheamus are angry with each other so Mick Foley books a 7 Series of matches between them! Oh no! Cesaro can have a good match with almost anyone but I don’t look forward to seeing 7 matches between him and Sheamus, I feel like I’ve seen them against each other too many times already.

The Dudleys Vs New Day.

Gallows and Karl Anderson appear on the Titan Tron and put some eggs into a microwave that isn’t even on (no light comes on) pretending that they are Big E’s testicles.

D-Von & Bubba quickly bump into each other and Kofi Kingston hits Trouble In Paradise on D-Von for the very sudden win.

Nia Jax Enhancement Match

Nia Jax is against someone called Rachel who looks a lot more marketable and worthy of a push than Nia Jax who seems to look a little fatter each week. Nia Jax quickly beats here but doesn’t look impressive at all.

Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman promo

During Paul’s usual mic work, Heath Slater comes out and tries to get a match with Brock in a tedious segment. Heath Slater isn’t good on the mic and they gave him way too much time here. Eventually Brock takes the mic from Heyman and invite Heath in the ring. He suplexes him and hits an F5 before Slater rolls out of the ring.

Heyman says that Orton doesn’t stand a chance against Brock but we should all watch SummerSlam on the WWE Network to watch The Beast demonstrate what he can do.

Kevin Owens Vs Big Cass

While both men fight on the outside, Jericho attacks Big Cass, causing a disqualification.

Rusev attacks Reigns backstage…..

Darren Young & Titus O’Neal team together against Primo & Epico….. I skipped this match…..

Neville Vs Jinder Mahal.

Jinder is really bad in the ring. Thankfully it’s just a quick match with Neville coming out of it victorious after hitting The Red Arrow.

Mick Foley tells Rollins to call out The Demon King in the ring as Seth had been looking for Finn Balor’s alter ego backstage during Raw…..

Seth Rollins calls out The Demon King and Finn Balor comes to the ring in full Demon mode.
Cool entrance.
It’s a shame they didn’t wait until SummerSlam for Finn’s Demon character entrance but maybe they were hoping fans would be intrigued and tune in to SummerSlam to see more of it…..

R-Truth & Goldust Vs Anderson & Gallows

It’s a quick match which The Club win easily with the Magic Killer finisher.

After the match, New Day attack Anderson and Gallows but they escape the ring before they can get much revenge on The Club for taking out Big E.

Charlotte Vs Alicia Fox

It’s a shame that Alicia didn’t have much time to do much – this was basically a quick enhancement match for Charlotte.

Roman Reigns Vs Rusev

I started watching this match but I started to yawn after a couple of minutes. The yawning intensified with each passing minute and I felt myself losing consciousness so I hit fast forward. The match was so boring that I couldn’t keep watching more than a few minutes of it. It seemed to last way too long because I had it on fast forward for a while before the show seemed to end. Hopefully the match at SummerSlam is kept short – for example, Rusev runs himself into the turnbuckles as the match starts when Roman moves out of the way – a quick Spear by Roman and he scores the pinfall…. anything more than that between these two is just fan punishment.

Another bad week for Raw, nothing memorable happened, no match could be considered a good match, it was just another throwaway Raw but this one was the last one leading to SummerSlam and it was extremely disappointing.

Let’s see if Smack Down has been any better over the last couple of weeks….

WWE Smack Down 9th August 2016 – Two weeks before SummerSlam

Bray Wyatt comes to the ring – Ziggler interrupts, leading to Eric Rowan and Bray double teaming Ziggler until Dean Ambrose makes the save. During the brawl, Ziggler accidentally Superkicks Ambrose.

Here comes @HEELZiggler … and he has unfinished business with the #WyattFamily!! #SDLive pic.twitter.com/VE2Zk1j2IL

— WWE (@WWE) August 10, 2016

American Alpha enhancement match.
They really are a great team. The Ascension, Vaudevillains and The Hype Brose are outside the ring to scout American Alpha and they all brawl after the match.

Eva Marie finally debuts on Smack Down…. Becky is waiting in the ring but before the match starts Eva has a wardrobe malfunction and the match is called off. Eva heads to the back.

Becky challenges anyone backstage and Alexa Bliss appears.

Becky Lynch Vs Alexa Bliss

Eva’s music hits during the match which distracts Beck and leads to Alexa hitting her Twisted Bliss finisher on Becky and winning the match by pinfall.

Randy Orton Vs Alberto Del Rio? Immediately skipped this match….. I don’t watch Randy Orton matches.

The Miz has backstage comedy segments with a guy dressed up as cartoon dog character Scooby Doo but I fast forward them as soon as they start.

Rhyno Vs Heath Slater

Rhyno Gores Slater for the win. I can’t stand Heath Slater and wasn’t paying attention to the match but I caught the finish.

Natalya Vs Carmella

Carmella is insanely annoying, just really irritating. She goes over here, scoring a tap out win over Nattie which I think is terrible and undeserved.

Ambrose & Ziggler Vs Bray Wyatt & Eric Rowen

This was easily the best match on either Raw or Smack Down for the week.
Overall I liked Smack Down more than Raw but I still wouldn’t say it was a strong show by any stretch of the imagination. Only the main event was particularly worth watching to be honest.

WWE Smack Down 16th August 2016 –

Here we have less than a week until WWE SummerSlam and it’s the last show WWE have to promote it and stir interest for it.

The night starts with a Miz TV segment featuring Ambrose and Ziggler – I skipped straight to their promos because The Miz is too annoying to listen to – not annoying in a good way, but annoying in a way that makes me hit fast forward – mid sentence Ziggler hits Ambrose with a Superkick and leaves him laying to end the segment. I’m actually looking forward to their match at SummerSlam, I’ve enjoyed their promo work over the last couple of weeks and I think they have been the strongest and most interesting thing on Raw or Smack Down since the brand split.

12 Man Tag Match

All 12 men seemed to take turns in delivery a couple of moves before rolling out of the ring, it was a fast paced, quick match with American Alpha gaining the win after taking out Aiden English.

Naomi comes to the ring with a new entrance and multi coloured attire… an announcement is made that Eva Marie can’t make the match because she’s stuck in traffic….. thanks Eva, you’ve saved us from a botch-filled Naomi match! I think Naomi’s worse than Eva in the ring which is really saying something. Just because Naomi can jump high that doesn’t really make her any good.

Randy Orton Vs Heath Slater….. No thank you!! Skipped to next segment….

Dean Ambrose Vs Eric Rowan

Ambrose wins the match with the Dirty Deeds but it’s over very quickly. Too quickly. They could have had an entertaining match if they had some time for it.

Bray Wyatt looks disappointed in Rowan and walks away from the ring…..

Natalya & Alexa Bliss Vs Becky Lynch & Carmella…..

Eva Marie’s music hits during the match…. Naomi chases Eva who appears on the ramp and Becky catches a distracted Natalya and gets her to tap out for the win.

Carmella is incredibly annoying, the way she moves, the way she talks, just everything.

Baron Corbin is beating up Kalisto backstage…..

John Cena Vs Alberto Del Rio…. I skipped he match, I don’t watch Cena matches and it’s the end of Smack Down. It’s a shame they didn’t end with Ambrose / Ziggler as they have the main event / WWE Championship match at SummerSlam and deserve the spotlight here and the last spot of Smack Down in my opinion to put over the Championship as the most important part of the show,, I don’t understand why Cena gets the last segment but I don’t watch it anyway so what do I care?

Overall not a good Smack Down – the main thing that I’m interested in on Smack Down at the moment is the Ambrose / Ziggler feud – everything else I feel completely indifferent to.

On Raw I’m interested in the Rollins / Balor feud and everything else I feel completely indifferent or uninterested in just like with Smack Down. I guess the positive here is that at least it’s the two matches for the World Championships that I am interested in. It’s just a shame that they could put together an amazing card for SummerSlam with the roster they have – even with the brand split being considered – but instead there are only 3 matches I’m interested in – Charlotte Vs Sasha should also be a very good match if it’s anything like their recent collision on Raw – Obviously other fans may be interested in other matches, which is great for them, but just not for me.

Over the last two weeks I’d say that Smack Down has been slightly better but it may just be as they are less time than Raw which has to rely on a lot of filler. Both Raw and Smack Down have been very disappointing and I haven’t been interested in much on either show.
