Here we are at week 6 for Raw Vs Smack Down

WWE Raw 29 / August / 2016

Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and Big Cass discussed the Fatal 4-Way WWE Universal Championship Elimination Match

I thought this was a good way to start Raw and I enjoyed this segment. It escalated into a brawl at the end and set up the main event nicely.

Chris Jericho def. Neville

This was a rematch of the Raw match in which Neville got injured during a baseball slide. I liked the match.

Nia Jax def. Hyan

This was another squash match for Nia. It didn’t last long and existed to make Nia look like an unstoppable monster. The only problem is she just looks overweight and not very good.

Sami Zayn def. Jinder Mahal

This wasn’t quite a squash match but thankfully Sami went over without Mahal having too much offence. I’ve said it before, but I don’t think Jinder is good at all and I’m surprised that they brought him back.

WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day & Bayley def. Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson & Dana Brooke

This was a surprisingly good mixed tag match!

Sheamus def. Cesaro; leads the Best of Seven Series 2-0

Unfortunately it seemed like Cesaro suffered a real injury during the match when he was backdropped into the steel post on the outside. I hope the injury isn’t a serious one and that he’s able to return to the ring injury free soon.

Braun Strowman def. Americo

This was another squash match for Braun. Before the match Americo claimed “I love big sweaty men” for some reason. Maybe this is WWE’s way of having gay characters on the show as they announced that they would do recently. Braun looks big and intimidating but he’s very limited in the ring.

Paul Heyman paid Brock Lesnar’s fine and apologized to Stephanie McMahon

This was a good segment with Paul Heyman and Stephanie McMahon – both were on top form. Unlike many fans, I feel Stephanie is constituently great on promos and we all know that Heyman is one of the very best.

Darren Young def. Titus O’Neil

I skipped this match straight away. It’s the only thing on Raw that I skipped this week. I have no idea what happened here and I hope I never find out.

Kevin Owens def. Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass to become the new WWE Universal Champion

This was a really good main event for Raw. It was an elimination match – Kevin Owens pinned Big Cass after a Frog Splash. Seth, Kevin and Roman battled each other until HHH appeared, seemingly on Seth’s side – he Pedigreed Roman on the outside and threw him in the ring for Seth to score the pinfall. HHH then double crossed Seth and nailed him with a Pedigree and telling Owens to pin him which he did. Kevin Owens looked legitimately surprised. Fans chanted “You deserve it” to Owens as he held the Universal Championship to end WWE Raw.

I enjoyed the match and I like that Owens is the Champion. It’s a shame that he wasn’t able to win the belt on his own though. A lot of the work was done by HHH and Owens was there to make the pin. It did create a big surprise / unexpected ending which is very good because WWE Raw is often too predictable but at the same time it’s a shame that Owens wasn’t responsible for his own Championship victory.

Overall I thought this was a really good Raw, the best one in a while.

WWE Smack Down 30 / September / 2016

The Miz and Dolph Ziggler battled with barbs

I don’t watch Miz segments so I skipped this.

The Hype Bros def. The Vaudevillians in a SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament Match

This was very quick and I thought it was a shame that The Hype Bros have advanced. The Vaudevillians are a much better team in my opinion.

AJ Styles def. Apollo Crews

The action in this was good with AJ Styles coming out with the win.

Bray Wyatt and Randy Orson’s verbal vitriol continued, leading into a match at Backlash

I don’t watch Randy Orton segments so I skipped this.

Natalya & Alexa Bliss def. Becky Lynch & Naomi

I wasn’t fully paying attention to this match – Naomi is very annoying. When she’s on TV my attention drifts away, like my brain rejects her.

Heath Slater & Rhyno def. The Headbangers in a SmackDown Tag Team Championship Tournament Match

It was good to see The Headbangers again and it’s a shame they didn’t advance in the Tournament – either that or it’s a shame that Rhyno doesn’t have a different tag team partner because Heath Slater is bad. There was a comedy segment before this match with Heath Slater and an overweight Southern woman pretending to be his wife inside a trailer with Rhyno who couldn’t stop eating cream cheese and crackers. Renee Young was tasked with doing an interview with them. It was very 1980’s humour and just really bad.

Baron Corbin def. Dean Ambrose via Disqualification

This was fine for what it was – AJ Styles was on commentary and got involved in the match, causing a DQ when he tried to kick Ambrose but missed and kicked Baron instead, causing Ambrose to lose the match due to the outside interference.

Overall I thought this was a weak edition of Smack Down.

Raw easily wins this week by having the much better show.
